The SAM Coupé was the
logical successor to the ZX Spectrum if there ever was one. Boasting of a higher clock
speed, better graphic modes, decent sound and backward compatibility
with software meant for the ZX Spectrum, the Sam Coupé was meant to carry on the baton of 8-bit
computing in the face of the oncoming tide of 16-bit computers. Alas!
It wasn't meant to be and it soon sunk under after a few years.
Listed below are
some selected games for the SAM Coupé, some of which really show off the capabilities of
the SAM to full extent. If you've got any good SAM games, do let me
know!
Game: Disk 1
This is a great compilation of some nice games
for the SAM. This disk has the excellent SAM version of Manic Miner
with even more caverns than the original. Also on disk are Splat, Mr.
Pac (a good pacman clone), Snake Mania (a variation of the traditional
snake game) and Craft (something like Pipe Mania for the Spectrum).
Must try!
NOTE: This disk is not available for download anymore due to copyright
issues.

Game: Disk 2
Another great collection of assorted games for the SAM. Games include
the classic Pipe Mania, a colourful version of Escape from the Robot
Monsters, a bad Tetris clone, a great version of Defenders of the
Earth, and Klax. Definitely worth a download!

Game: Prince of Persia
This is the really cool SAM version of the PC classic - Prince of
Persia. A game that continues to see sequels even today. But there is
nothing to beat this original masterpiece and the SAM version is as
good as any! Highly recommended!

Game: Lemmings
Lemmings was a big hit when it came out and it wasn't long before there
was a version available for most of the home computers. This one is the
SAM version and very good it is too. Great graphics and sound make this
one rather enjoyable!

Game: Golden Sword of Bhakhor
This is a text and graphics adventure for both 256K and 512K SAM. Mind
you I didn't see too many graphics in the game (not having played it
that much) but they are rather good. One of the few traditional
adventure games I've seen for the SAM.

Game: Ore Warz
Ore Warz is a strategy game very much in the Laser Squad vein. Again, I
haven't played it enough to comment on how good it is, but the graphics
are pretty enough. Never was much of a strategy fan I'm afraid!
